Heartbleed: What was the fuss about?

April 2014 was an eventful period for Internet security experts, most notably due to the Heartbleed-related frenzy. The disarray which followed the discovery of the data-leaking bug was well founded; Heartbleed was titled as one of the most dangerous internet security vulnerabilities in the web's history.
